On this day, in 1974, Dave Stockton won the Greater Hartford Open, edging out Raymond Floyd by four strokes. Coincidentally, Stockton also won the CVS Charity Classic on this day in 1971, finishing ahead of Raymond Floyd by one stroke.

David Knapp Stockton, born in 1941 in California, won ten times on the PGA Tour and picked up two majors in his career, the 1970 and 1976 PGA Championships. In 1991 he joined the Senior Tour (now the Challenge Tour) and has so far won fourteen senior PGA titles including three senior majors.

Meanwhile, on this day in 1969, Jimi Hendrix played the unofficial last day of Woodstock. One saucer-eyed witness reported that Jimi played the set dressed as a sixty-foot tall magical dragon blowing rainbow fire from his mighty snout. These reports were later discredited.
