She's a Babe. Shwing...

It was on this day in 1935 that a certain Babe Zaharias paid the price for being really bloody good at loads of other sports other than golf. Indeed, Babe's professional activities in other sports such as track and field and basketball saw the golfing powers that be rule her ineligible for amateur events. Not that she really ever had any trouble in professional golf events mind you, winning an impressive 41 LPGA Tour titles in her lifetime.

51 years later to the day in 1986, and notorious second place finisher Greg Norman managed to win a golf tournament. After a valiant struggle against Larry Mize, Norman finally captured the Kemper Open on the sixth playoff hole. It took less than a year for Mize to get his revenge, however, chipping a mind-bogglingly impossible shot on the second playoff hole against the Aussie to win the 1987 Masters. What goes around comes around, Greg. Coincidentally, June 1 seems to be a day that produces tight finishes to the LPGA Championship; Kathy Whitworth edged Sandra Haynie by a stroke on this day in 1975 and Pat Bradley managed to do the same to Patty Sheehan in 1986. Strange, but true.

On this day in 1962 Karl Adolf Eichmann, known as ‘the architect of the Holocaust’, was hanged in Israel for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Known in the SS for organizational skills and ideological reliability, he was charged with the task of facilitating and managing the logistics of mass deportation of Jews to concentration camps in Eastern Europe. Like many high-ranking Nazis, he fled to Argentina after the war on a fake passport, and worked there for Mercedes-Benz until 1960, when he was captured by Israeli Mossad agents and tried on fifteen charges.

And it's Brandel Chamblee! as they say in the USA to Columbian-born LPGA nobody Marisa Baena (31) , English actor, Robert ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ Powell (64), top-drawer guitarist and hideously bad painter Ronnie Wood (61), reformed lunatic Jason Donovan (40), Teutonic supermodel Heidi Klum (35) and the woman who made millions off misunderstanding irony, Alanis Morisette (34).
