Retief Goosen and David Frost: 'Nice sweat patches, Retief...'

First there was Gary Player running his mouth about players pumping themselves full of steroids, and now Retief Goosen has come out and said what we all probably thought at lsome point during last week at Torrey Pines. Asked whether he thought Tiger had been faking it during his play-off with Rocco Mediate, the two-time major winner said, "I think so. It just seemed when he hit bad shots his knee was in pain and on his good shots he wasn't," said Goosen.

Obviously fearing some sort of Tiger backlash, however, Retief later explained his comments to The Times newspaper by saying, "I was being light-hearted. No one but Tiger knows how badly hurt he was. But if he was really badly hurt, he would have withdrawn wouldn't he?" Not really, Retief. That's why Tiger's the best player in the world, because he can play through the pain. What we really want to see now is a Tiger, Retief pairing in next month's Open at Royal Birkdale...
