Nick Price: Could have been a great ballet dancer...

It was on this day in 1994 that the Zimbabwean golfer Nick Price took the Open Championship title at Turnberry, Scotland. Neck and neck with Sweden’s Jesper Parnevik, he holes a monstrous 50-foot eagle putt at the 17th (above) to help him to a one shot victory. It would be his only Open title.

It was also on this day in 1917 that the British Royal Family changed their name, With the nation at war with Germany and them being, well, Germans, they decide to ditch Saxe-Coburg Gotha and pretend they’re English. The new name, Windsor, narrowly beats Bumstead in a poll to find the family a new, less Teutonic name.

Bumps today to golfers Eduardo Romero (54) and Peter Lonard (41), actor Donald Sutherland (73); the Baywatch bampot David Hasselhoff (56) and Princess Di replacement Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall (61).
