We love a good shindig here at IGWT, so you can imagine how happy we were when we stumbled upon Gordon Brand Jnr's 50th birthday celebrations... in Newcastle of all places.

Sam Torrance (looking radiant after a holiday in Barbados) was there to help good 'ol Gord celebrate his half ton. The duo - both members of the legendary 1987 Ryder Cup  - were up at the lovely De Vere Slaley Hall for this week's PGA Seniors Championship, with Gordon making his Seniors Tour debut.

After Billy Android had a quick rummage through Gordon's bag, the affable birthday veteran invited us for a spot of bubbly and a few slices of birthday cake... who were we to say no?

Things got a little bit messy, however, as Billy took full advantage of the free bar. We told him to take it easy, but those pesky androids never listen, do they? Maybe our resident equipment editor should take a leaf out of Torrance's book. 'I'm off the booze,' he told us. That's what Monty said about the pies...
