Gregory Havret: Is that one of those belly shaft things, Greg? Shame on you...

We thought some of the big names looking for a wildcard spot were supposed to be on top of the pile at the Johnnie Walker Classic, not Gregory Havret? Fair play to the Frenchman, who shot a five-under 68 to put himself two shots clear of a chasing pack comprising Paul Broadhurst, Christian Cevaer and Gary Orr.

Other players inside the top ten include IGWT pick Soren Hansen and Bradley Dredge (both tied sixth), Martin Wiegle and Gregory Bourdy. Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood both opened with 72s, good enough to put them in a big group tied for 13th.

If Monty wants to get this wildcard pick, he'll certainly have to do better than his first round 71, as will Paul McGinley and Oliver Wilson, who are both tied for 68th after shooting 76.
