Woody Austin: If his golf's as bad as his shirt selection, we're screwed...

It took all my might not to go with Kenny Perry this week, but bookies have tightened their odds on him like it's going out of fashion, so I opted against him. I've mixed it up a little for this week's John Deere Classic...

D.J Trahan
D.J's back on my radar after some solid performances recently. With some low numbers in the past weeks as well as a finish for tied fourth at the US Open, you get the feeling that it's only a matter of time before he gets his hands on some more silverware...
Woody Austin
Forget those hideous shirts and concentrate on his golf for a moment. Austin's played 18 events this year and has made 14 cuts, including a second place finish at the recent Buick Open. He'll be there or thereabouts come Sunday afternoon.
Ryan Palmer
Trust me, or at least hear me out, when I say Palmer's due a good finish... maybe even a win. Ryan's shown some half-decent form this year, and I've just got a feeling that he's going to place this week.

I've got my own bleedin' website. Check out www.thebetdetective.com for the best odds...

Last Week's Tips
Steve Stricker - T18
Rocco Mediate - T18
Kevin Streelman - T27

Colin Montgomerie: 'Deep fried KitKat?Mmmmmmmm...'

It was a matter of so close, yet so far last week at The European Open, what with Soren Hansen draining a birdie putt on the last to deny me a bit of moula on Robert Karlsson. I'm not one to hold grudges, however, especially against Soren...

Ernie Els
I don't know what, but something's telling me to go with the Big Easy this week... probably the fact that he won here in 2003 and 2000, finished third in 2007 and the year before that.
Soren Hansen
I can't get enough of Soren at the moment, and who can blame me with the form he's shown this year? The Dane's recorded two top ten finishes in the last fortnight, which, in my eyes, means he's only going to get better.
Colin Montgomerie
I know, I know... he choked big time last week, but trust me when I say he's going to pull it out of the bag at Loch Lomond. Found a bit of form recently, home crowd, loves Loch Lomond, won here in 1999 and bookies are given a good price on him. What more do you want?

Last Week's Picks
Robert Karlsson - T6
Colin Montgomerie - T24
John Bickerton - Missed Cut

Rocco Mediate: 'This big it was....'

It was back to winning ways last week at the Buick Open, with Kenny Perry coming good and pocketing us a nice little earner at 12/1. Got to admit that Kenny was almost a dead cert, but with a somewhat depleted field this week, I've decided to mix it up a bit...

Steve Stricker
The Wisconsin native has been a bit off the radar this year, but you've got to remember that he finished second at this event last year, just a few strokes behind KJ Choi. Known for his comebacks, Stricker has finished inside the top 10 in five of the eight cuts he's made on Tour this season, and something's telling me that he'll get back to winning ways this week.
Rocco Mediate
He shot 11 under at last week's Buick Open, which was only good enough for a tied 28th finish. Rocco's been in sensational form since Torrey Pines, and if he keeps it up, expect him to be there or thereabouts on Sunday afternoon. Put a fiver on him for an each-way finish...
Kevin Streelman
Only chosen Streelman on the basis that the odds on him are so good, and that he's played really solidly in his last two starts, finsihing tied 12th last week at 14 under, and tied 10th on 12 under the week before at the Travelers Championship.I'm thinking a fiver on a  top ten place..

Last Week's Picks
Kenny Perry - 1st
Rocco Mediate - T28
Jim Furyk - T34

Colin Montgomerie and Jodie Kidd: 'Yeah, she's my new missus...'

So much for going with the local boys, eh? What an absolute load of rubbish those French lot turned out to be on 'home soil' at the Open De France. At least Soren Hansen's each way finish has given me a bit of extra pocket money to play about with this week, which I intend to spend as follows...

Colin Montgomerie
He may be grumpy and boring, but you can't take away the fact that Monty's a good golfer when he wants to be... which is why I'm choosing him this week. Had a great time at last week's Open De France, finishing second behind the uber-impressive Pablo Larrazabal. He won last year's European Open at the K Club and seems to be getting back into some sort of form as of late.
Robert Karlsson
How has this Swede not won on the European Tour this year? He's finished second twice, third three times and has had two other top ten finishes on the European Tour in 2008. Surely this week he's going to finally get a win under his belt, or whatever it is they wear around their waists in Sweden...
John Bickerton
There's still great value to be had on Redditch's finest, which is a little bit of a suprise considering the good form he's shown in the past few weeks. Not only has he already won on tour this year at the Alfred Dunhill Championships, Bickerton's been playing well recently, tying for third at the BMW International Open and finishing tied seventh at the Open De France. Worth an each way...

Bernhard Langer: Rocco Mediate?

Europe's finest fly back from Torrey Pines straight to Munich this week for the BMW International Open. And, when a selection of the field have finished driving through Munich in BMW Classic convertibles to celebrate the automobile giants' 20th anniversary, maybe they'd kindly find their way to the first tee and pocket us some cash...

Miguel-Angel Jimenez
I know, I know.... we always go for this bloke, but he's just too good to resist this week. Victorious at the recent BMW PGA Championship, played well at this track last year and had a good finish (tied 6th) at last week's US Open. And not many curly-haired ginger blokes can look so good smoking a Partagas as he does.
Bernhard Langer
Langer's enjoying a real hot spell at the moment, boasting two wins on the Champions Tour in America this year and another six top ten finishes- all from 11 events. The German tied for 15th at this year's Players Championship, lost in a play-off at the 2007 Crowne Plaza Invitational... and came second in this very event last year. Money well spent? Just a bit...
Julio Zapata
With odds on this Argentinian starting at no shorter than 200/1, this is a big call on my behalf. Despite an iffy performance at last week's Saint-Omer Open, Zapata scored really well at both the Austria and Wales Open, so we're hoping that he'll be able to do the same this week and at least reward us with an each way finish.
