Tim Petrovic: One-hit wonder?

Tim Petrovic, longest drive of 2008? His ball must have hit a boulder or the cart path... how else do you explain a 439-yard rocket from someone who finished 75th in total driving distance for the year, eh? Anyway, here are top-ten longest drives on the PGA Tour in 2008. They're stupidly long...

1. Tim Petrovic - 439 yards. The Honda Classic
2. Bob Heintz - 435 yards. Legends-Reno Tahoe Open
3. Kyle Thompson - 433 yards. RBC Canadian Open
4. J.L. Lewis - 429 yards. Texas Valero Open
5. Steve Marino - 424 yards. Texas Valero Open
6. Ryuji Imada - 414 yards. Buick Invitational
7. Pat Perez - 412 yards. Texas Valero Open

Well, yes, we would actually...

After a mighty fine performance at this year's Open Championship, it was never really in doubt that Chris Wood would earn his European Tour card for next season. The 20-year-old bossed Q-School in Spain, saying: 'I wouldn't swap the Open for this or this for the Open - I would take both!' We'll look forward to seeing him - and his funky socks - next season that's for sure...

Guess which player's taking the trophy home...

On this day in 1998, 22-year-old Tiger Woods knocked off Vijay Singh 2-up in the final match in Kauai, Hawaii, to win the PGA Grand Slam of Golf - which used to be considered a marquee event with the world's most 'exclusive' field, consisting only of the four major winners of the year...

Rory McIlroy: The on-course gym facilities were an unexpected hit...

Did you know that Hong Kong GC - venue for this week's tournie - was formed by thirteen golf enthusiasts in 1889 (just give us your picks - Ed). Anyway, I've got a good feeling about this lot...

Rory McIlroy - Seems a long time since I last picked Rors, but he's seriously itching to get a win under that flash J.Lindeberg belt of his, and after a fourth place finish last week, he'll be full of confidence.

Thongchai Jaidee - Couldn't understand why Jaidee was one of the faves this until I had a peek at the stats. He played solidly in Singapore last week and, get this, finished second here last year. Get involved while you still can...

Daniel Chopra - Haven't been too impressed with his form recently, but the thing with Chopra is that he can pull it out of the bag when you least expect it. Finished well last week and I'm not going to turn my nose up at 66/1.

Who'll have reason to celebrate?

Miguel Angel Jimenez to retain his title at the UBS Hong Kong Open OR the lovely Sienna Miller to marry Balthzaar Getty in 2008 @ 16/1. Time's running out for Sienna, so put a tenner on Jimenez each-way...
