Whatever you do, don't buy any giant oversized foam drivers from a guy who looks like Jesper Parnevik on the internet, OK? ...

Two people were arrested on Tuesday evening in North Carolina and charged with possessing counterfeit golf goods with intent to sell. The raid was made police using information supplied by Acushnet, manufacturers of Titleist, FootJoy and Cobra equipment.

Three thousand fake items were seized in China following raids on four counterfeit factories last August. The problem is such that the US Golf Manufacturers Anti-Counterfeiting Working Group (featuring Acushnet, Callaway Golf, Cleveland Golf, Nike Golf, PING and TaylorMade) is working overtime to protect itself from fraud.

Auction site eBay is considered the destination of the majority of fake clubs. So be careful before you buy…

An unconscious David Feherty just out of shot

The utility club market is manna from heaven for the equipment manufacturers; particularly now that the pros are carrying them. Cobra have been manufacturing hybrid clubs for nearly 25 years and they launch two new versions next February - the 2008 King Cobra Baffler DWS (RRP: £124) and Baffler Pro (£132). Rumours that the advertisment will feature David Feherty being beaten over the head with the new models by Ian Poulter and Camilo Villegas were completely made up for a cheap laugh.

Sleeve it out...

You won’t go shy of innovative technology in the manufacture of golf balls. With Titleist as the global market leader, if they come up with new ideas you pay attention. The new NXT Tour features advanced, multi-layer construction, higher coverage dimple design and Staggered Wave Parting Line delivering more consistent distance.

'Call that a golf shoe. More like a ballet pump. In my day, we lived in a cardboard box, ate gravel and wore hobnail boots etc...'

We can't pretend we haven't flirted with other shoes - the odd pair of Eccos, Pumas, even Bally back in the day. But you always come back to FootJoy. The FootJoy DryJoys PODS™ will be launched in January 2008 and look to take the sports-style shoe to new levels.
The new outsole incorporates seven individual Tri-density TPU Stability PODS™ with enhanced OptiFlex™ zones resulting in breakthrough ‘Flextability’ - stability achieved through maximum flexability. Now we know that golf manufacturers have a frightening capacity to mess with the English language and if truth be told, we're not quite sure what they're on about here either. But they look cracking and at £99 a pair that's good enough for us.
