It’s where Dragons play, apparently…
We say apparently because we don’t believe in Dragons (You should meet my missus – Ed), but as an advertising ploy, it is kinda’ catchy. What we do believe in, though, is in the right to get away from it all and, Celtic Manor is the perfect place to do that.
But amongst the eating, drinking, slicing and Bruce Forsyth impressions, we didn’t get much time to tell you the history of Celtic Manor, and how it got to be the host of the 2010 Ryder Cup.
The cynical amongst us would say money, and although Terry Matthews’ wealth has played its part, it has been used to create a course, clubhouse and hotel fit enough to stage the first Ryder Cup in Wales since, well, ever.
Adding to the considerable charms of the Montgomerie and Roman Road courses, and the superb dining, drinking and relaxation facilities, the 2010 course is a proper belter, and loves nothing more than a toe-to-toe battle. In fact, the whole 2010 experience will bring a smile to even the most dour of faces. Yes, Phil Mickelson, that means you…
