'I thought it only rained in Birkdale?'

Only half the field were able to finish their rounds on the first day at the Canadian Open, with torrential rain delaying play for over five hours. That didn’t stop Mike Weir, Anthony Kim and Eric Axley shooting six-under 65s to take a share of the lead.

Just behind the leading trio is Welshman Richard Johnson, who carded an awesome four-under 65 in his first round on the PGA Tour. Da iawn ti, Rich. Gwiath godidog (Uh? – Ed). Tour veteran Corey Pavin was about to hole a two-feet birdie putt on his final hole when play was delayed. He had to wait six hours before holing out for a 71…

Kenny Perry: 'Yeah, this is way better than any Claret Jug...'

Three victories in five starts... isn't this all getting a little bit boring? Kenny Perry had to see off Brad Adamonis and Jay Williamson in a playoff to win the John Deere Classic. But talk about bottling it; both Adamonis and Williamson found the pond with their approach shots on the first playoff hole, handing the title to Perry, who's now second behind Tiger Woods in the FedEx Cup standings.

Perry may be good, but good enough to turn down a spot at Royal Birkdale for this week's Open? We'll let you decide. Charlie Wi, Will MacKenzie and Eric Axley all finished one shot outside the playoff on 15-under, and IGWT pick Woody Austin finished tied for ninth, just outside an each-way spot...

Kenny Perry: It was acceptable in the 90s. Just about...

Forget Tiger Woods for a moment, because Kenny Perry's the man to beat on the PGA Tour at the moment. Perry birdied the 18th at the third round of the John Deere Classic to move into a three-way tie at the top on 15-under with Eric Axley and Brad Adamonis.

Other players well in the hunt include Jay Williamson, Will MacKenzie and J.P Hayes, though IGWT pick Woody Austin (ten-under) will have to pull something pretty special out of the bag to win. We'll take an each-way to be honest...

Ken Duke: America's answer to Colin Montgomerie...

Ken Duke and Charlie Wi both shot six-under 65s to share the lead after the first round of the John Deere Classic. Unsurprisingly, Kenny Perry's sizzling run continues after he shot a 65 to jump into a tie for third with two other players.

IGWT tip Woody Austin is in with a shout after he opened with a 66 to plonk himself in the middle of a big pack tied for seventh. D.J Trahan finished at one-under, but our outside pick Ryan Palmer had an absolute 'mare, shooting a seven-over 78...

Woody Austin: If his golf's as bad as his shirt selection, we're screwed...

It took all my might not to go with Kenny Perry this week, but bookies have tightened their odds on him like it's going out of fashion, so I opted against him. I've mixed it up a little for this week's John Deere Classic...

D.J Trahan
D.J's back on my radar after some solid performances recently. With some low numbers in the past weeks as well as a finish for tied fourth at the US Open, you get the feeling that it's only a matter of time before he gets his hands on some more silverware...
Woody Austin
Forget those hideous shirts and concentrate on his golf for a moment. Austin's played 18 events this year and has made 14 cuts, including a second place finish at the recent Buick Open. He'll be there or thereabouts come Sunday afternoon.
Ryan Palmer
Trust me, or at least hear me out, when I say Palmer's due a good finish... maybe even a win. Ryan's shown some half-decent form this year, and I've just got a feeling that he's going to place this week.

I've got my own bleedin' website. Check out www.thebetdetective.com for the best odds...
