Rocco Mediate: 'This big it was....'

It was back to winning ways last week at the Buick Open, with Kenny Perry coming good and pocketing us a nice little earner at 12/1. Got to admit that Kenny was almost a dead cert, but with a somewhat depleted field this week, I've decided to mix it up a bit...

Steve Stricker
The Wisconsin native has been a bit off the radar this year, but you've got to remember that he finished second at this event last year, just a few strokes behind KJ Choi. Known for his comebacks, Stricker has finished inside the top 10 in five of the eight cuts he's made on Tour this season, and something's telling me that he'll get back to winning ways this week.
Rocco Mediate
He shot 11 under at last week's Buick Open, which was only good enough for a tied 28th finish. Rocco's been in sensational form since Torrey Pines, and if he keeps it up, expect him to be there or thereabouts on Sunday afternoon. Put a fiver on him for an each-way finish...
Kevin Streelman
Only chosen Streelman on the basis that the odds on him are so good, and that he's played really solidly in his last two starts, finsihing tied 12th last week at 14 under, and tied 10th on 12 under the week before at the Travelers Championship.I'm thinking a fiver on a  top ten place..

Colin Montgomerie and Jodie Kidd: 'Yeah, she's my new missus...'

So much for going with the local boys, eh? What an absolute load of rubbish those French lot turned out to be on 'home soil' at the Open De France. At least Soren Hansen's each way finish has given me a bit of extra pocket money to play about with this week, which I intend to spend as follows...

Colin Montgomerie
He may be grumpy and boring, but you can't take away the fact that Monty's a good golfer when he wants to be... which is why I'm choosing him this week. Had a great time at last week's Open De France, finishing second behind the uber-impressive Pablo Larrazabal. He won last year's European Open at the K Club and seems to be getting back into some sort of form as of late.
Soren Hansen
How has this Swede not won on the European Tour this year? He's finished second twice, third three times and has had two other top ten finishes on the European Tour in 2008. Surely this week he's going to finally get a win under his belt, or whatever it is they wear around their waists in Sweden...
John Bickerton
There's still great value to be had on Redditch's finest, which is a little bit of a suprise considering the good form he's shown in the past few weeks. Not only has he already won on tour this year at the Alfred Dunhill Championships, Bickerton's been playing well recently, tying for third at the BMW International Open and finishing tied seventh at the Open De France. Worth an each way...

'Le Bet Detective? He knows his onions, non?'

What a terrible time I had last week in Munich, hey? If there's one thing I've learned, however, that's to back a few local lads, and looking at the form book, the local French contingent do well in this tournament. And what's more, this week's picks are better value than a string of onions from Johnny Onions...

Francois Delamontagne
Granted, this 29-year-old from Rennes isn't a household name, but he's shown steady form as of late, tying for eigth at the Austrian Open, finishing fourth in the St Omer Open and sixth at last week's BMW International Open.
Thomas Levet
Apart from the fact that he's French, a finish for tied sixth at last week's BMW International Open and a win at this year's Open de Andalucia means that he gets my nod of approval.
Soren Hansen
This Dane has caught my eye over the past few weeks, so I've finally decided to put some money on him. Not only did he finish well at Torrey Pines, but he was runner-up here last year, as well as third in 2005 and 10th in 2004. I've got a good feeling about this one...

Jim Furyk: 'Got a spare outfit, girls?'

After a fruitless week at Torrey Pines, I managed to get back to winning ways after a cheeky each way win with Hunter Mahan. But it's not about each way wins, is it? It's about big winners, so bearing that in mind, I've played it a bit safe this week...

Jim Furyk
I'll be the first to admit that Jim's had a poor 2008 so far, what with no wins and only four top-five finishes, but you just can't ignore the fact that he loves this track. He won here in 2003, has enjoyed 8 top-10s in 13 starts at the Buick Open, shot 66 or better on 12 occasions on this course and has never missed a cut at the Buick Open...
Kenny Perry
Without doubt the PGA Tour's form player, Kenny Perry won here in 2001 and although his record at Warwick Hills isn't quite as impressive as Furyk's, his current hot streak makes him a solid pick. Famous last words...
Rocco Mediate
This is certainly not a pick I'd have seen myself making, but before his second-place finish at the US Open, Rocco finished tied 6th at the Memorial Tournament and something tells me that he's going to put in a good performance this week.

Sergio Garcia: Time to come of age and pocket us some money...

Forget all that malarkey about Tiger's Grand Slam. After picking Trevor Immelman to win the Masters at 133/1, this year is all about the Bet Detective Slam. What with Torrey Pines being super long and all that, I've chosen a few big hitters who, apart from being able to smash it off the tee, are deadly with their irons, lethal with the putter and, well, good at getting the ball in the hole. Here goes nothing...

Sergio Garcia
Big off the tee and boasting a rebuilt putting stroke, there's absolutely nothing standing in the way of Sergio winning his first major this week. He'll tee it up at Torrey Pines full of confidence after his 4th place in Memphis last week, not to mention that crucial win at The Players Championship.

Anthony Kim

You many have noticed that we love Anthony Kim here at IGWT, especially since he rewarded us handsomely (50/1, thank you very much) by winning this year's Wachovia Championship. 22-year-old Kim is certainly long off the tee, we're just hoping that he'll have the patience to make a run this week at Torrey Pines.

Ryuji Imada
As far as token outsiders go, they don't come much better than Japan's Ryuji Imada. Having won the recent AT&T Classic, as well as a brace of second place finishes before that (one of which was at Torrey Pines at the Buick Invitational), he'll come into this week in as good a form as anyone.
