Have a crack at Augusta's "16th hole" then catch the footie at nearby Wembley ...

Our chums at Northwick Park invited us to the launch of its new 9-hole PowerPlay Golf Centre last week and just like Ian Poulter's course attire, it captured the imagination as well as jumping on the bandwagon of the new wave of sports competition. Want to play Augusta? Go here, golf fans ...

Replicating some of golf's most celebrated holes such as the card damaging Postage Stamp at Royal Troon and the intimidating 9th at The Belfry, Northwick Park’s "Majors Course" gives golf a much-needed face-lift. And of course, instead of sitting in front of the telly watching the Masters, if you're in snowy/rainy London you can play on strangely accurately re-creations of Augusta's famous 12th and 16th holes.

Enough to satisfy all of today's golfing addicts needs, from the five-times-a-week board meeting types to the social Sunday hackers, Playgolf Northwick Park is just a Tiger-esque driver and a long-iron away from Wembley Stadium.

Rugby Sevens meets Twenty20 cricket, perfect in its location to meet the City's demands for a competitive time-saving exercise. Without substituting golf's pleasure factor nor the principles etched deep into golfing folklore, Peter McEvoy and his team of talented designers has found a niche capable of attracting and sustaining a sizeable clientele.

Playgolf & Power Play’s ambition is highlighted by the acquisition of Sir Les Ferdinand as an ambassador although he assured us a golf-school is miles from the tee considering his 23-handicap. Ferdinand is the premier ambassador for Playgolf and will help promote future similar projects in Manchester and East Kilbride, Glasgow. If golf is to rid its elitist, male dominated, plus-four wearing image, then PowerPlay & Playgolf Northwick Park have forged a match made in heaven to open the world's most popular sport to new and exciting eyes.
