Rocco Mediate: 'Wonder if these CND belts will take off on tour?'

Opinion is divided in the InGolfWeTrust camp regarding the characterful Pennsylvanian. Those in favour point out his lighthearted badinage with the crowd and his rock'n'roll demeanor (well, it is golf). Those against cite the ugly slashing off the tee and the same lighthearted badinage... Either way, here's some stuff we didn't know about him half an hour ago.

1. Too Hot To Handle
Mediate is the first player to win with a long-handled putter, the 1991 Doral-Ryder Open, after seeing off Curtis Strange in a playoff.
2. Dead Man's Hand
Entered the World Series Of Poker in 2005. He finished 600th out of 5,619. He still won $40,000.

 3. The DM at DC

He's a distant cousin of Domenic Mediate, who plays in midfield for DC United in the American MLS. He has a younger brother called Rocco. That can't be a coincidence can it...
4. Back To Basics
Rocco suffers from what he once called "back crap" (caused by a hypermobile hip joint), which led him to receive a partial exemption to the PGA Tour in 2007 - he finished the season at 65th in the rankings, having started at 206th place.
5. From Soccer To Rocker
Rocco is big mates with Alex Lifeson, the lead guitarist from Canadian prog-metal trio, Rush. He travels with them on tour. Lifeson guested on an episode of The Golf Channel's Personnal Lessons.
6. Master 'Mare
On the final day of the 2006 Masters, Rocco tied for the lead at the 8th, then shot a septuple bogey 10 at 12. He ended up tying for 36th.
8. Watch This Drive
Rocco is sponsored by Audemars Piguet, luxury Swiss watch company who also have Vijay Singh, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thomas Levet on their books.
9. Make Pars Not War
He wore a CND belt buckle and badge cap in the final round of the 2008 US Open as a tribute to Joan Ruddock, the Labour MP for Lewisham, and former leader of the Campaign For Nuclear Disarmament.
10. Full Metal Racket
That last one was a lie, unfortunately. We have no idea why he decided to brandish the CND logo to a global TV audience 20 years after people stopped caring. That's possibly the same reason he talked about wearing a Metallica belt buckle for the play-off round...
