Rolf Muntz: He's hiding behind the unbrella, Rolf...

Tour veteran, local favourite and the excellently-named Rolf Muntz leads the KLM Open after firing a six-under-par 64 in the first round. Muntz has a one stroke lead over England's John Bickerton and Soren Hansen... two players we'd usually back.

The chasing pack includes Noren Alexander, Simon Khan, Philip Price (da iawn Phil - Ed) and Justin Rose, who needs a third-place finish to secure a place on the Ryder Cup team. Our best mate Michael Campbell shot a promising two-under-par 68 which, if truth be told, seems like his best round for years.

In a mixed day for our picks, Benn Barham fared best with a 69, which was good enough to put him in a tie for 27th. Anton Haig finished one-over (T59), and Nick Dougherty lost a ball with his second shot of the day, hit a bird later on in the round and ended up three-over (T99).

Sam Torrance & Gordon Brand Jnr: 'Put the knife down, Gord...'

We love a good shindig here at IGWT, so you can imagine how happy we were when we stumbled upon Gordon Brand Jnr's 50th birthday celebrations... in Newcastle of all places. Sam Torrance (looking particularly radiant after a week's holiday in Barbados as well as being 'off the booze') was there to help good 'ol Gord celebrate his half ton...

Vijay Singh: Only girls pout, Vijay...

We don't know what's more annoying about Vijay Singh's latest outburst; the fact he's left it so long after the PGA Championship to have a moan or the fact that it's just him sulking like a little girl. Again.

Nearly a fortnight after missing the cut at the PGA Championship, 'The Big Fijian' has hit out at the quality of Oakland Hill's greens.

'The greens were a disgrace on a course that good," he said. 'I think if the members were to play at the speed of the greens we played, they'd all quit...I don't think they should have another golf tournament there if the greens are like that.'

His advice to the PGA? 'Get someone to redesign the green, they were a disaster.'

Wonder if he would have said the same thing had he actually won the tournament? Has he ever considered the real problem may lie in the fact that he can't actually putt? Guess that's what happens when you use one of those stupid broom putter things. Cheat...

Anthony Kim: 'Are you sure you guys are golf journalists?'

What a difference a year can make, eh? Can't say that I was the FedEx Cup's biggest fan when it made its debut last year, but with Tiger out of the picture, this playoff stuff has taken my fancy all of a sudden. With a new-found enthusiasm for the whole thing, I'm going to lump big on this lot...

Mizuno MP-62s: Sweet as a nut, whatever that actually means...

As much as we love clubs that help us hit that little white thing further and straighter, if our sticks aren't easy on the eye like Sienna Miller, then we don't want to know quite frankly. That's why we're jumping for joy over Mizuno's latest offerings - especially the MP-62 irons - because with these babies in the bag, we've got the best of both worlds.
