Today is the day in 1963 that a fresh-faced Jack Nicklaus defeated a slightly less fresh-faced Tony Lema by a stroke to claim his first ever Masters title. The first of his six wins in the competition, Jack shot a 66 in his second round and never looked back. Well, obviously he did at some point as people were playing behind him but you know what we mean.

Elsewhere, today is also the day that in 1969 that many boffins credit as the birth of the Internet. And without the Internet, there would be no In Golf We Trust. Which is like fish without chips. Though ironically, the World Health Organisation was founded exactly five years later. So a bit too late then.

And we Gregory Bourdy! as they say in Brest to actor, martial-artist, director and all-round stunt supremo Jackie Chan (64), Kiwi Gladiator and mardy-arse Russell Crowe (44), broadcasting giant Sir David Frost (69), and big shot film director Francis Ford Coppola (69).
