Steve Scott: ‘Gotta get to the 19th hole...'

It was on this day in 1982 that Olympic 1500-meter runner Steve Scott set the record for the fastest round of golf played on a regulation course, speeding around the 18 holes like a madman at Dad Miller Golf Course in Anaheim, California in 29 minutes, 33.05 seconds. Impressive...

On this day in 1939, New York’s La Guardia Airport began operations, opening up the Eastern United States for a new breed of golf travellers. It wasn’t a good day for Nick Leeson, however, in 1995 the rogue trader was jailed for six years for shady deals which helped take down Barings bank.

It’s Sun Yat Fai Lok! as they say in Hong Kong, to off the rails pop icon Britney Spears (b.1981), Sports Illustrated and Golf Digest scribe Dan Jenkins (b.1929), winner of nine PGA Tour titles and three-time Ryder Cupper, Jay Haas (b.1953) and two time PGA Tour winner Paul Stankowski (b.1969).

Hmm... I wonder if he actually got to enjoy his golf game? Probably after he set the record.
