Nancy would often swap trophies for icy replicas
On this day, in 1969, a 12 year old Nancy Lopez won the New Mexico Women's Amateur, crushing 23 year old Mary Bryan 10 and 8 in the final match.
Nancy Lopez was born in California in 1957 and has enjoyed one of the most successful careers ever in women's golf. In her rookie season she won nine LPGA events and was named Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. In total she has 48 LPGA wins to her name and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1987 at the age of 30.
