"TWICE in five years? Frick!"

Following Saturday's 17th and 18th holes, two is the number of times that Tiger Woods has carded back to back three putts in a single round on Tour in the last five years. The last time he did it was at the 4th and 5th in the 2006 Buick Invitational which he then went on to win. At this point, if I was a TV commentator or Mystic Meg or something I might suggest that it's an omen and that he's on his way to victory. I'm not either of those things though, so I won't.

there's always one bloke in the crowd, showing off...

Hang on, shouldn’t you be finished by now?

Not this week, the tournament's running from Friday to Monday, not Thursday to Sunday.

Why?

Because a Sunday climax would clash with the Super World Series Megabowl or something.

Of course, the Super World Series Megabowl, who do you fancy in that?

I think it'll be close between the Detroit Eagle Kickers and the Southern Seattle Snake Scorchers.

Good stuff, so anyway, what's going on in the golf?

Well, Brett Wetterich leads by one shot, at 13-under, after a par save at the fourth that Phil Mickelson described as “just amazing.” After lumping a three-wood into the trees, Bretty Wetty needed six drops before he could play a stunning 220 yard five-iron which landed four feet from the pin.

Bretty Wetty? That's terrible. Who else is in contention?

Arron Oberholser is on his own in second at 12-under. Mickelson owns third place at 11-under and Woods and Aaron Baddeley share fourth.

So Mickelson's doing well, dare I ask about the other IGWT tips?

Mark Calcavecchia didn't disgrace himself but has no chance of winning, Rory Sabbatini fared better and finds himself only five shots off the lead.

Didn't disgrace himself? You mean like befouling the green or something?

......

Hello?

He still has both his original hips you know...

On this day, in 1966, Bruce Devlin won the Carling Open, the third of his eight PGA Tour wins.

Bruce William Devlin was born in Armidale in Australia in 1937 and turned pro in 1961. He had one win on the senior tour before retiring from playing to concentrate on commentating and golf course design. To date he has designed over 150 courses all over the world.

Also on this day, in the year 301, the world's oldest republic and worst football team, San Marino, was founded by Saint Marinus.

Meanwhile, in 1995, eBay opened its virtual doors giving everyone the chance to buy and sell their unwanted junk world-wide.

And it's Fritz Pregl! As they say in Slovenia, to; England football hopeful, Scott Carson (22), annoying, mousey TV presenter, Fearne Cotton (26) and Carlos Irwin Estevez (better known as Charlie Sheen) (42).

'I think I've found a crack in it'

Was it a good finish?: Ye cuid hae bund me wi a strae.
Does that mean a Scotsman won?: Oh yes. Marc Warren beat Simon Wakefield  in a playoff, birdieing the 18th the second time round for his second European Tour title.
And the first was?: The Scandinavian Masters in 2006, when he beat Robert Karlsson, in a playoff oddly enough.
What’s the story then?: Warren carded nine birdies and five bogeys in an action-packed final round 69 and had to hole a nasty eight foot putt for a birdie in regulation play to get into the play-off at 12-under, having dropped a shot at the 17th.
I read that Warren’s manager, Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler offered him the advise to raise nae mair deils nor ye can lig?
What was he on about?: Basically, he told him to play safe and take it from there.
Fat chance. Is Chubby Scottish then?: No, he’s from Bolton.
Any other wild-haired men with the Saltire tattooed on their faces figure in the final shake-up?: Steven O’Hara finished a creditable tied 7th at 9-under and Monty came tied 9th at 8-under. Our favourite Oli Fisher clambered up the leaderboard to from 30th to tied 9th after a 67, bettered only by Martin Erlandsson’s 66 to take him from tied 15th to tied 3rd.
Any other news to report?: Darren Clarke had a pop at the choice of The PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles as the venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup. "There's only been one Ryder Cup in Scotland,” he said, “and then they choose a course like this one. There are even two better ones here at Gleneagles - it's beyond my comprehension."
What did Monty say?: As tournament chairman at this event he offered a diplomatic defence. “Nivver miscaw a Gordon i the raws o Strathbogie,” he countered.
Did he?: No, he said it was a “fantastic venue.”
