Soren Hansen to win the Omega European Masters

Kate Moss to be the new face of Terry's Chocolate Orange

It's that time of week again to decide where to throw your hard earned cash. The sensible golf bet using reason and judgement or the trashy showbiz bet because you fancy the celeb.

Brian O Driscoll: "A ROUND ball? Are you mental?"

The Rugby World Cup kicks off on Friday, and to celebrate, the London Playgolf complex at Northwick Park are offering rounds for only £10 as long as a home nation remains in the competition. (Better get down there quick.) Based near Wembley, Northwick Park is one of the few courses in England offering Powerplay Golf. Call +44 (0)20 8864 2020 to book your round.

As well as giving you the chance to get some Powerplay under your belt, this offer also provides the perfect opportunity to plug IGWT's sister site Scrum of The Earth, the best place for all your egg-chasing news, launching on Friday.

Tommy Armour celebrates his third and final major win, having already taken home the U.S Open in 1927 and the PGA Championship in 1930

"Sorry lads, bribery won't work, especially not thistles in pots or whatever that is..."

The Omega European Masters in Switzerland eh? I'm sure you'll be telling me that i'd be 'cuckoo' to miss it, or some such rubbish...
I'd never make a joke THAT bad, you should definitely do your best to clock it though as it's the start of the qualification for next year's Ryder Cup.

Ryder Cup? Already?
Yep, it's a year long process culminating in next year's Johnnie Walkers at Gleneagles. Automatic places in Nick Faldo's team will be given to the top ten Ryder Cup points scorers as of now onwards.

So who's going to score here?
No-one, thanks to Gary Player's Just-Say-No Campaign.

Who's going to score Ryder Cup points here, i.e do well in the tournament?
Lee 'Tim' Westwood (happy birthday by the way Lee) is the bookies favourite. Last year's champ Bradley Dredge will hope to do well again and David Howell, Robert Karlsson, Darren Clarke.  Niclas Fasth and Paul Casey are looking for Ryder Cup recalls.

When i'm looking for something, it always turns out to be in the last place I look.
Well, you should definitely take a look at the Omega Masters as there will be ten past winners in the field, extra incentive for the European players and the Crans-Sur-Sierre course is one of the most beautiful on the Tour.

How very neatly tied up
Thanks

Lee lets his thoughts on Tiger's fitness advice be known

On this day, in 1999, Lee Westwood won the Canon European Masters by two strokes over Thomas Bjorn after recording a 14-under-par 270.

Lee Westwood was born in Worksop in 1973, he won his first professional tournament in 1996 and since then has won 17 times on the European Tour, four times on the Japanese Tour and has seven other professional wins to his name. He has yet to win a major but has played twice in the Ryder Cup. Other famous Worksoppians include Bruce 'David' Dickinson and Donald 'Blofeld' Pleasence.

Also on this day, in 1698, Tsar Peter 1st of Russia imposed a tax on beards in an effort to get rid of archaic customs.

Meanwhile, in 1973, the Voyager 1 space station was launched. Still operational today, the 70's fittings, linoleum floors and flock wallpaper are in serious need of a change.

And it's Zhang Zhong! As they say in China, to; son of a genius and musician in his own right, Dweezil Zappa (38), satirical genius Chris Morris (42) and slightly less than genius Raquel Welch (67). Today would have been the 67th birthday of raving Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury if he hadn't died of AIDS in 1991.
