If only Richard Finch had hired this dog...

We’re the lucky ones because we take water for granted and yet, despite the hazard it provides on the golf course, it is one of nature’s most versatile elements. Nevertheless, it has led to a few farcical faux pas involving the Royal & Ancient game down the years.

Ryuiji 'Groove' Imada: no Villegas in the bicep department

An odd day ended up with a peculiar ending, Ryuiji Imada beating Kenny Perry in a playoff. A 5-wood from Perry cannoned off a tree and into the water, an open invitation for the Japanese player to go one better than his playoff loss to Zach Johnson at this tournament 12 months ago.

Camilo Villegas ensured yet another tidy weekend for The Bet Detective, finishing in third spot at 14-under, with Jonathan Byrd in fourth at 13-under and Parker McLachlin, James Driscoll and Justin Boli finishing tied for 5th at 12-under.

Parker McLachlin will be kicking himself after letting a three-shot lead slip, but even after his unfortunate knock on wood, Kenny Perry still had two tricky putts to keep the game alive. Needless to say he missed...

Richard Finch: reed 'em and weep...

Some Tour pros just like to tempt fate but we’re worried that their bad ju-ju will rub off on us, so we won’t mention Ryuji Imada. Dammit... We just did. There’s also been a lot of water involved in the final holes of events, with some people’s hopes sinking to a watery grave, while others know when to quit, and others still keep piling up the dosh – even if they hide the golf trophies underneath the bed.

Mike Standly: groovy shirt...

From Marilyn Monroe to Joanne Carner via Tony Blair, with much else besides, this was an interesting day. The prime minister, for example, had a filled condom delivered directly ton him in the House of Commons, and it’s not often we get the chance to write a sentence like that.

Richard Finch: would you do this for €416 thousand Euros?

Richard Finch: would you do this for €416 thousand Euros?

Richard Finch has set the pace for the Muppet Of The Year Award for this season's InGolfWeTrust Rusty Awards, accidentally toppling into the River Maigue after hitting his approach shot to the 18th hole.

Fortunately, he was three shots clear of Felipe Aguilar and despite standing sodden from head-to-toe, he managed to paddle the ball into the hole in three shots for a 10-under total of 278.

It's his second win of the season after the Michael Hill New Zealand Open last November and gives him a realistic change of challenging for a place in The Ryder Cup squad.

Felipe Aguilar was second at 8-under, while Robert Karlsson, Maarten 'Do Yourself' Lafeber, Gary Murphy and Lee Westwood shared at 7-under. Rory McIlroy posted an uncharacteristically consistent trio of 70s and a 72 to come seventh, while Bradley 'Don't Push Me 'Cos I'm Close To The' Dredge tumbled in a less entertaining manner from first to tied 8th, after a final round 76.
