'I thought it only rained in Birkdale?'

Only half the field were able to finish their rounds on the first day at the Canadian Open, with torrential rain delaying play for over five hours. That didn’t stop Mike Weir, Anthony Kim and Eric Axley shooting six-under 65s to take a share of the lead.

Robert Rock: Who's ya caddie?

It's a four way tie at the top at the Russian Open after Joakim Backstrom, Fredrik Henge, Roope Kakko and David Carter all shot opening rounds of 65 (seven-under). Other players in the mix include Jarmo Sandelin (67), Robert Rock (68), defending champ Per-Ulrik Johansson (69) and Paul Waring (69).

What with those Swede's being amazing at golf, Joakim Backstrom holed his second shot - a 233-yard four iron - on the par-five 15th to join an elite group of players who've achieved an albatross on tour. Jammy...

Story of the day has to go to former Russian tennis ace Yevgeny Kafelnikov and NHL superstar Alex Kovalev, who both recieved wild cards from the organisers. At 17 and 27 over par respectively, however, they'd do better sticking to their day jobs...

Calvin Peete: 'Peeteaboo...'

On this day in 1982, Calvin Peete won the Michelob Championship by two strokes over Bruce Lietzke. Peete was born in Detroit Michigan in 1943 and learned the game in his 20s in Rochester, New York, playing on the municipal course at Genese Valley Park.
