Arnie: the golfing Brando
Arnold Palmer was the 60s matinee idol of golf. The twin forces of Arnie's naked charisma and the savvy of his agent Mark McCormack gave golf coast-to-coast popularity with TV audiences in the States. At seven years-old, he broke 70 for the first time at Bent Creek Country Club; in 1967 he became the first man to crack $1million in earnings and seven Majors later, including four Masters titles, he had become one of the golfing immortals.
